AFTER going through the toolkit 🙂
I use this video or the MP3 version right before bed.
It’s amazing, relaxing, helps me stop the buzzzzzzzzzzz of all the thoughts and plans (you know what I mean!)
It also helps me to really reflect and acknowledge that God is HERE right now! Amazing, right?
Transcript of Reunion Church’s Examen Youtube Video:
In the quiet, we open our souls to God.
And find life, whether you’re sitting down or lying in bed, just relax, take a deep breath in and hold it for a moment. And then exhale deeply notice the way your chair or your bed is supporting your body. Pay attention to any places where there is tension or tightness. Again, breathe in, breathe out, try to calm your mind down. Try not to think of everything you did and everything you still have to do. Try to be present in this moment. Another deep breath in deep breath, try to be fully present.
In the quiet, we open our souls to God and find life
Relax, try to feel open in this moment. Open your mind, open your heart, try to put things. Out of your mind, that would be a distraction for you. Anything that would keep you from being present in this moment, remind yourself that you’re in the presence of God, that we’re always in the presence of God, but especially here and now we’re intentionally trying to pay attention.
Take a deep breath in and remember that God is present with you here. And now in the quiet we open our souls to God and find life.
Take a moment now to thank God for one thing, one gift you’ve been given, maybe a person’s face comes to mind. Or a situation, a particular blessing you experienced today. Think back over your day. What are you thankful for moment now? Just to pray about that, to thank God for that thing, that person in that situation. Give, thanks in the quiet. We open our souls to God and find life.
Take a moment to ask the Holy spirit to help you to freely and honestly review the happenings of today.
Think about the interactions and the events and recall them in an honest way, ask the Holy spirit to help you remember how the day unfolded. The interactions you had, the people you met be open and honest with yourself. The open and honest before God in the quiet, we open our souls to God and find life.
Now look back over your day and try to relive the key moments on the whole. Was it a good day or a bad day? Was it a normal day or unusual in some kind of way. But did you meet, who did you spend time with? What did you do? What stands out? Does anything special come to mind? Was there a moment where you sensed God’s presence with you?
Why did you sense that?
It’s been the next several minutes, just reliving your day person to person event to event in the quiet. We open our souls to God and find life.
As you continue to review your day. Does anything bad come to mind? Was there a difficult situation you found yourself in a strange relationship, maybe, perhaps you made a decision that you now regret a time when you are less than your best.
Did you turn away from God? Take a moment to acknowledge this, ask for God’s forgiveness for the ways you fell short and be excited about the opportunities and chances you have for tomorrow to do better pray about these things. In the quiet, we opened our souls to God and find life.
Finally we look forward to tomorrow. What do you have coming up? What are you excited about?
Take a moment to ask for God’s grace and help with whatever is coming up tomorrow. Ask that your day will be marked and shaped by love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self control. Think about tomorrow and commit it to Jesus.
In the quiet we open our souls to God.
Our father in heaven. Let your name remain. Holy. Bring about your kingdom, manifest your will here on earth. As it is manifest in heaven. Give us each day that day’s bread no more, no less. And forgive us our debts as we forgive those who owe us something lead us, not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, but let your kingdom be and let it be powerful and glorious forever.
